Somerville Open Studios

In April, SOS Means "See Our Shows"

Our main event is in May, but we've got plenty of art to show you in April.

Our biggest group show is the Artists' Choice Exhibit at the Somerville Museum. We've invited every SOS member artist to submit one work of art to this exhibit. It's a good place to survey the breadth and variety of art that SOS has to offer, and to plan which studios you want to visit in May.

During April, the Artists' Choice show is open Thursdays 2-7 pm, Fridays 2-5 pm, and Saturdays noon to 5 pm. The show runs through May 10, with extended hours during SOS weekend.

In Davis Square, the Inside-Out Gallery displays works by 15 artists who are participating in SOS for the very first time this year.

You can visit this gallery at any time of the day or night, since it is located in the windows of the Davis Square CVS. The SOS exhibit will be showing there through May 4. We will have a Sidewalk Reception in front of the gallery on Friday, April 25, from 5:30 to 7 pm.

At Bloc 11 Cafe in Union Square, our SOS Volunteer Show features art by the many volunteers who are making SOS happen this year. This show will remain on display
through May 17.

Finally, our Kids' Art Show at the Armory Cafe presents work by the littlest of Somerville's future artists. It opens with a Cupcake Reception on Saturday, April 26 from noon to 2 pm, and will stay on display through May 9.

Eat Tasty Flatbread and Support SOS

On Tuesday, April 22nd from 5-11pm, Flatbread Company at 45 Day St. in Davis Square will donate a portion of pizza sales to Somerville Open Studios. There will also be a raffle of prizes including a gift certificate to Blue Cloud Gallery, tickets to the ICA and more.

Volunteer with SOS!

SOS is run by a wonderful group of volunteers, all artists and art-lovers just like you. Help to keep SOS the great experience it's been for fifteen years.

Want to ride a trolley and point out local landmarks? Prepare a museum exhibit? Help run a fashion show? Find out how you can join the crew! Don't forget: volunteers will meet other artists and wonderful people. Especially at the volunteer thank-you party after the event.
