SOS Talk #4: Exhibit Design and Merchandising:
Curating your Studio for SOS
Our fourth SOS Talk will be an interactive workshop, discussing the best ways to design your studio space to showcase your work and your story for SOS visitors.
This event will feature arts marketing specialist Jesa Damora and exhibit designer Cira Louise Brown. It will take place on Thursday, April 9 at 7 pm at Artisan's Asylum, 10 Tyler Street. For more information, please visit this page.
SOS is looking for volunteers!
Somerville Open Studios is a volunteer organization. When you choose to give your time to SOS you help your artist community. We are currently looking for volunteers to fill the following positions. If you think you would like to take one of these roles, please email the SOS 2015 volunteer coordinator, Nancy Anderson, at firstname.lastname@example.org.
Map Book Distribution
Do you live near a map book stand? Donate some time and adopt one for the SOS season starting around April 8th. Responsibilities include:
- keeping a map book stand in your neighborhood full.
- Hanging posters at businesses around Somerville and other surrounding towns.
Information Booth Staff during SOS weekend
- Manning an information booth for a 2 hour shift on May 2 or 3 during the hours of 12pm-6pm in Davis Square or Union Square.
- Giving visitors information on how to get to studios, trolley schedules, and providing maps where requested.
- coordination of trolleys on the weekend of event.
- picking up and putting out the trolley stop signs before SOS begins.
- Making sure trolley drivers know their route and helping them to stay on a schedule to ensure properly spaced trolley wait times.
(The Coordinator's Assistant role has now been filled. Please welcome Emily Marden to SOS.)
See art in Somerville all year round
You don't need to wait until SOS 2015 in May to see art in Somerville.
Through March 31, visit Mudflat's Artists in Residence (AIR) show.
On April 10-12, 2015, visit Miller Street Open Studios, next to the Beacon Street Star Market. This event happens in every odd-numbered year.
Through April 11, visit the Motion, Memory exhibit at Brickbottom Gallery, 1 Fitchburg Street. The show features SOS artists Gary Duehr and Davis Palmquist (and non-SOS artist Jennifer Liston Munson).
Check out current and future exhibits of the Brickbottom Gallery, Nave Gallery, Nave Annex, Washington Street Art, Muskat Studios, Inside-OUT Gallery in Davis Square, Micro Museum in Union Square, SCATV Gallery, Somerville Museum, Ready Room Microgallery at Artisan's Asylum, and Tufts University Art Gallery. Something is happening almost every week at one or more of these venues.

all artists and art-lovers just like you. Help to keep SOS the great
experience it's been for sixteen years.
Want to ride a trolley and point out local landmarks? Prepare a museum exhibit? Help run a fashion show? Find out how you can join the crew! Don't forget: volunteers will meet other artists and wonderful people. Especially at the volunteer thank-you party after the event.
