INTERNATIONAL DOCUMENTARY PHOTOGRAPHY AS FINE ART As an inveterate world traveler, I have been privileged to visit more than fifty countries on five continents. Using photography as both a creative and educational medium, I seek to provide an unusual view--intimate, socially aware, and highly "visual"--of the daily lives, customs, and surroundings of our fellow human beings in other parts of the globe, particularly Africa, Asia, and Latin America. I seek to present a picture of the everyday lives of working people, in very different cultural settings, that is both candid and evocative; that avoids any element of "exoticizing" or patronizing but, rather, conveys the elements of ingenuity, beauty, and dignity in their daily work, creations, family lives, and rituals. My work has won numerous awards and is widely exhibited, and my prints are held in a wide variety of private, institutional and corporate collections. I also present my work in frequent slide lectures throughout the U.S. |
