Union Square Somerville got its name because it was a recruitment and mustering site for the Union Army during the Civil War. Today's Union Square is home to a weekly Farmer's Market, the Union Square Main Streets Organization (www.unionsquaremain.org) that organizes local festivals such as "What the Fluff" and "Rocks, Paper, Scissors" tournaments.
