2024 Open Studios Event

Somerville Open Studios 2024 will take place on Saturday + Sunday, May 4-5, 2024, from 12-6 pm each day, at artists’ studios and homes throughout Somerville. Come visit, meet the artists and check out the art at this free city-wide event.

The SOS First Look Show at the Somerville Museum is now open, with more than 180 works by SOS 2024 artists. Visit this show to help plan your SOS weekend.

For the first time in five years, SOS will hold a fashion show, now called Artwear. The show will be held on Thursday, May 2, at the Crystal Ballroom in Davis Square. Doors will open at 6 pm, with the show starting at 7 pm.

We will have even more group exhibits at various locations around Somerville, listed below.

This show is open to all 2024 SOS registered artists. We strongly recommend viewing this artist choice non-juried group show – many studio visitors plan their trip based on what they see here. A great sampling of works by our member artists.

Thursdays 2-7 pm, Fridays 2-5 pm, Saturdays noon-5 pm

        SOS weekend hours:

The Somerville Museum is fully accessible, with an elevator at street level.

      • Artwear: The SOS 2024 Fashion Show

Crystal Ballroom • 55 Davis Square (Somerville Theatre building)
Thursday, May 2, 2024 • Doors open 6 pm, show begins at 7 pm

The term Artwear refers to clothing and other wearables designed as conceptual or fine art. Artwear operates outside of the boundaries normally presented in fashion to favor an approach that prioritizes style and vision.

In past years, SOS has provided the public with a fashion show titled Beyond the Pattern to kick off open studios weekend. This show made it possible for textile artists to be included in open studios in a way that was more conducive to their art form than a studio opening or a gallery.

This year, the SOS fashion show will be held at the Crystal Ballroom in Davis Square on Thursday, May 2nd. The Crystal Ballroom is directly above the Somerville Theatre. Doors open at 6pm for cocktail hour with the show beginning at 7pm. The venue will have a full bar and runway seating. The event is free for the public to view original textile art by Somerville artists!

For more information, including a list of participating designers, please visit the Artwear page.

      • SOS 2024 Locavore Shows

This year, SOS will present three small Locavore group shows at various locations around Somerville.

At Neighborhood Produce, 691 Broadway in Ball Square (Map #E2), the theme is Community. The show will be displayed in the store window, so you can see it from the sidewalk at any time from April 19 to May 12. Here’s a list of artists exhibiting in this show.

At Scritches & Boops, 62c Summer Street (Map #E6), the theme is Art Unleashed: art that dogs will enjoy! The show will be up from April 26 to May 10, Wednesdays through Sundays, 11 am to 7 pm.

At the Somerville Public Library, 79 Highland Avenue (Map #E7), the theme is The Book As Art: Unbound. We’ll show art that uses the book as content and/or medium to explore and transform our idea of what a book can be. The show will be on display from May 1 – 29 during regular library hours.

      Updates to artist listings

      Puzzled?

For our 25th year, here’s a fun way to discover artists and other parts of SOS that you normally might not come across – a series of puzzles, one released each week.

Solving the puzzles may take you through the SOS artist listings, give you cause to visit some of the permanent public artwork throughout town, or just challenge you to think creatively.
